This morning I spilt my coffee

Early this morning, we were on the way to the airport in the “crew van” gently waking up. Some were on their phones to their families, others, like me, sipping their coffee and thinking about the very long day ahead.

Coming the other way, at the same time, on the wrong side of the median (central reservation for my UK friends) was a speeding car - heading right at us!

Our driver swerved (spilling the coffee) and avoided a high speed head on collision.

Aside from a few choice words floating around in the van, it went very quiet very quickly. We rode in silence for several minutes. The First Officer called his wife and left a message in her voice mail that simply said, “I love you”.

The rest of us? Well, we were thinking quite a lot about our families and, “how”.

“How close was THAT?”

“How did that idiot get on our side of the road?”
and, “How on God’s green earth did we miss him?”

We thanked the driver for being alert. We all worked hard and long but thought a lot too. We flew, landed safely… but then we always do don’t we?

Someone told me tonight, “If you search for ‘Ian Currey” on YouTube you find a bunch of videos you made”. Yes, I know, but this morning I spilt my coffee.

TELL someone you love or care about - do it today! …A reminder that we simply don’t know what the future holds.
