Three trips to the dentist
This month I’ve been to the dentist three times! ONE would have been quite enough for most people too! I actually enjoy visits there because of the friendly nature of the dentist and staff and because the work I have to have carried out is usually very minor.
So why the multiple visits?
First, a simple replacement filling, “and since you are numb and the one next to it seems likely to need changing soon we’ll just do that while we are in there”.
The “…and since you are numb…” comment came back to me once I was home and found the filling seemed a little high. “I’ll get used to it, its new” I think to myself but within a week I was back having the filling gently ground down.
Third time? You would THINK I’d learned my lesson and would say “something doesn’t feel right” when something didn’t feel right but again, I think, “I’ll get used to it, its new”.
Once again a week passes and this time I return to find that indeed the “other” filling was also high but since I hadn’t complained and the Dentist wasn’t aware there was an issue my third trip became required.
I discovered the amount of filling taken off to make the difference was really tiny, certainly not like a stone in your shoe or anything (though stopping to deal with that uncomfortable situation is somewhat akin to this).
What a great reminder to deal with those “little things” in our lives that we try to live with that can cause such trouble. I’m reminded again of Ephesians 4:26 “…don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry.” Dealing with little things before they become big problems seems to apply to a good may areas of our lives.
While I really do enjoy my visits to the dentist, let’s not have another one for, oh, say six months or so!
